on a hilltop and is believed to date back to around 500BC.
Legend has it that a sage named Manjushree, who is credited
with the creation of Kathmandu saw a celestial lotus in bloom
on the hill top and bressed it. Swayambhu is an important
pilgrimage site as well as a centre of art, architecture,
religion and culture of Mahayana Buddhism. Durbar Square is
Kathmandu’s focal point. Durbar Square holds the places
of the Malla and Shah Kings who once ruled the city. Along
with these palaces, the square also contains a series of temples,
the oldest dating back to the 16th century. The square is
also known as Hanuman Dhoka, a name derived from the statue
of Hanuman , the monkey god, near the entrance of the palace

Teaching
Project |
As
English is an international language, it is becoming
more and more of a required skill for job placement,
educational advancement and future success. Many classes
are delivered in English by Nepali teachers, who frequently
have only a basic knowledge of English themselves.
Therefore, there is limited opportunity for Nepali
students to expand their knowledge and use of the
English language without direct contact with a teacher
fluent in English.
In
this, program volunteer teachers participate in teaching
activities in Nepali schools by delivering conversational
English and reading classes to Nepali children. Volunteers
do not need to have formal teaching qualifications
to teach at Nepali school. You will need a good command
of written and spoken English, plenty of enthusiasm
and a lot of patience.
Inventive
Panorama Treks provides intensive teacher training
by the training experts. After the training, the first
three days of volunteering are spent observing the
Nepali teachers or other overseas volunteer teachers’
classes. After observing a few classes, volunteers
will start supporting the local teachers and take
part in some classes.
Volunteers,
who are professional certified teachers or have previous
teaching experience and TEFL certification, may train
the local teacher as most of the Nepali teachers lack
training and experience.
Children
are approximately between five and 16 years of age
and volunteers will teach three to four hours per
day. Schools are open six days a week, Saturday being
the day off. Class sizes range from ten to fifty students.
Besides formal teaching, volunteers may get involved
in organising activities, which encourage the personal
development of students, using their initiative to
learn life skills.
