Pikey Dudhkunda Cultural Trek is supposed to be a newly opened trekking destination in Solukhumbu Region. It is a popular trekking trail in the Solu-Khumbu region. Dudh Kunda Lake meaning the milky lake is situated at the foot of Number Himal, locally Pikey Dudhkunda Cultural Trek is known as Shorong Yul Lha, meaning the guardian of the Solu region. It is believed to be a holy lake and the locals believe that taking a dip in the holy waters will have their wishes granted. While trekking in the area, you also can relish and see the panoramic views of snowcapped mountains including Mt. Everest, Number and other mountains lying along the areas. Besides that, you also can explore the Rhododendron flowers, pine trees, wild animals such as mountain Thars, Bear, Leopard, Jackle, and birds like pheasants.
Similarly, you will also be able to capture the sceneries of sunrise and sunset from Pikey hill, which is considered to be one of the tallest hills of Solu. The name Pikey is derived from the name of the Sherpa language which means a clan deity. During July, the locals hold celebrations to worship this particular clan deity. This peak offers a grandiose view of Mt. Everest and the other Himalayas lying around. Besides, that Pikey hill also offers incredible sunrise and sunset views during good weather. The trail passes through one of the most beautiful settlements of Sherpa and Rai communities in the region. You can visit ancient Buddhist monasteries such as Thupten Chholing Gompa and enjoy the unique Sherpa and Rai ethnic peoples’ culture, lifestyle and picturesque landscapes. Pikey Dudhkunda Cultural trekking to the Dudh Kunda and Pikey hill takes you through dense forests of rhododendron and a variety of wildlife. The trekking in the area begins from Jiri after 7-8 hours continues driving from Kathmandu to Bhandar and making trekking to Dudhakunda, Pikey Hill, the trekking ends in Phaplu and one can drive back to Kathmandu.
Your arrival to Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA), Tour and Trekking Nepal airport representative well come to pick up you at Kathmandu International Airport then transfer you to hotel in Kathmandu then at evening we do office formalities. Overnight at star hotel in Kathmandu.
It’s about 9 and half hours’ drive to Bhandar from Kathmandu. Its a joyful drive through many different villages, rivers, bhanjyang, deurali etc. At the time when road begins uphill we will enjoy panoramic view of the hills, villages and valley. Then you will reach the Shivalaya which place is located bank of Khimti River. Stay overnight in Bhandar.
From Bhandar, you’ll start your trek to Gumba. First, with gradual descend from Bhandar to Likhu Khola, you start off to Namkheli (2300 m). Once, you reach the top, you can have a nice view of Bhandar and Thotung. Then, you’ll move towards Gumba. This day’s trek is a bit tiring as the distance is more and elevation is more than 600 m. At the Gumba, you’ll get a clear idea about life in the rural parts of Nepal. Overnight stay at lodge in Gumba.
Next, you’ll head to Pikey Peak Base camp from Gumba. You take an elevation of more than a thousand meters. The trail takes you past rhododendron forests, pine forests, and small settlements. Usually, you can climb to the peak the same day, but for the view of the sunrise, you spend a night in the base camp in order to view the sunrise the next morning. The path to Pikey base camp gives you surreal views of Mount Everest along with other mountains comprising the Khumbu region. Overnight stay at lodge in Pikey peak base camp.
Early morning, you’ll follow a gradual ascend to the Pikey peak, also known as Pikey Dada which is mostly covered with prayer flags. From the top, you get to see the peak of Everest and other snowcapped mountains. You can also visit the cheese factory where Himalayan yak cheese is made. Then, through forests, hills, and villages, you’ll descend towards the Junbesi village. The area has few monasteries and stupas where you can explore the Buddhist culture and the lifestyle of local people. Overnight stay at lodge in Junbesi.
After breakfast, you follow the trails along the river and through fields towards the Thupten Chholing monastery. The trail is beautiful and you pass many villages and farms. The monastery is home to around 800 monks and the place feeds and educates a large number of people. The area is inhabited by Tibetan monks who came as refugees a long time ago. Overnight stay at tented camp in Thupten Chholing monastery.
We start to walk to the Dudhkunda lake and we can’t get village couple of days so we will stay in the jungle. It’s a really great path with incredible view and landscape. You will have fun to do this trekking, stay in the jungle on the tent. You will see the wild animals and many birds. overnight at Tent camp.
You will see the beautiful holy lake Dudhkunda lake on a lap of the Numbur Himal. This is your destination for this trekking so enjoy the being here and such an incredible view. overnight at Tent camp.
t’s about 7 hours walk down to Chauri Kharka. Today trails goes normally downhill through the jungle and some bare hill. After the Dudhkunda lake the trek is almost over. Stay overnight in Chauri kharka.
It’s about 5 hours walk to Chiwang gompa. It is a great walk to the hiwang gompa. Chiwang Gompa is located in hill with best view and incredible place. Chiwang monastery is really nice monastery. You will feel great to be here. Visit the monastery and see their culture. Stay overnight in Chiwang Gompa.
Then last day walk is about 3 hours to Phaplu airport. In the afternoon walk to the sallery market which is the district headquarter of Solukhumbu. Its half an hour walk from Phaplu. Make a last day celebration of trekking and goodbye to your kitchen and supporting staff. Stay overnight there.
In the morning it is about 35 minutes fly to Katmandu. Himalayan Joy adventure will pick you up from the airport and transfer to the hotel. Be fresh in Katmandu after two weeks trekking in mountain and enjoy walking around in Katmandu.
