Teaching and travelling program is a life-changing experience. Since I arrived in Nepal, I have received nice treatment from Kathmandu Summit Adventure staff. My flight was late for an hour, and the staff waited for the whole time to pick me up and take me to my host family. The overall condition is better than I imagined: there is wireless and hot water in the homestay.
On the first day, Kathmandu Summit Adventure staff took me to visit the city and environment around the host family. After that, I had some Nepali language and culture classes. I worked in the Women’s Centre and local school to teach English. Women really like to learn and they respect the teacher a lot. Primary school students are more naughty, but also very cute and polite at the same time. I enjoyed the process of teaching; through it, I learned new knowledge and culture and had a sense of achievement.
Pepsicola, where my host family is located, is a very safe place. When I decided to volunteer in Nepal, my parents were a little worried about the situation because they did not know if it was safe for a girl to go alone to an unfamiliar country for so long. By showing the Kathmandu Summit Adventure website and volunteer reports, my parents gained confidence and supported me in participating in the Tour and Trekking Nepal program.
The reason for choosing Kathmandu Summit Adventure is its close relationship with schools and orphanages; therefore I know that my costs will be used directly to improve Nepali local society. The cost to participate in the Kathmandu Summit Adventure program is suitable for a student, and moreover, Kathmandu Summit Adventure offers a very flexible time to start and finish because the organisation receives volunteers all year. Therefore, students can easily use their breaks from school to volunteer.
The opportunity to help others gave me a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. I really enjoyed the Nepali style of life because it is a simple way to be happy. Being a volunteer in Nepal is a good way to experience the local life and reflect on our busy city life. I hope to have another chance to return to this magical country!
